ONE of the best programs introduced by the Department of Education is the implementation of the Text2Teach Program.Text2Teah is a globally-known ICT-based education using mobile technology. It helps teachers deliver more engaging and interactive lessons to Grade 5 and Grade 6 public school pupils.
Schools are equipped with a Microsoft mobile phone with app of over 360 interactive videos for Math, Science, English and Values Education. Each video ranges from two to eight minutes. Videos saved on the mobile phone undergo several reviews to comply with the DepEd Curriculum.
Text2Teach program is funded by Ayala Foundation with the cooperation of Globe, Nokia which is now Microsoft, Pearson, Dream, Seamo Innotech, UNDP and International Youth Foundation. The Text2Teach facility is composed of 32” LED TV, miracast, speaker, AVR, cabinet and a mobile phone. Video clips are saved in mobile phones and projected to LED TV with the use of miracast.
With the help of this program, pupils developed utmost interest in the lesson. Furthermore, a remarkable decrease in absenteeism and drop-out rate was observed.
Text2Teach program also ensures higher learning gains and improvement in learning behavior among pupils. Hence, academic performance of the learners has improved with the help of the Text2Teach program. (Grace Lavidez)
