Lapeña vows to weed out corruption endemic to BOC

CAGAYAN de Oro City--Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña  assured the public that he will weed out corruption endemic to the Bureau of Customs (BOC).

In his visit to the port of Cagayan de Oro City on Friday, Lapeña urged his fellow workers at the BOC to stop corruption and encouraged them to take an aggressive drive against unscrupulous smugglers.
He said he will introduce an additional system to boost and enhanced the collection of the entire district offices nationwide--and run after the smugglers.
Aside from his anti-corruption drive, he said he will not hesitate to replace the officials of any non-performing collection districts.
“I’m appealing you my fellow customs workers to work heartily and Godly, and double your efforts so that you can hit your collection target,” Lapeña said during the Technical conference attended by all port collectors and district collectors.
BOC, Region 10 is under the auspices of District Collector Jamael Marahombsalic and his district includes the port of Cagayan de Oro, port of Iligan under Port Collector John Simon, port of Ozamiz under Port Collector Chona Sarte, and Mindanao International Container Port Terminal (MICPT) located in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental under Port Collector Sam Pacasum.
The MICPT is the biggest collection district covering 80 percent of the entire collection of BOC, Region 10.
In an interview, District Collector Jamael Marahombsalic vowed to strongly support the plans and programs of Lapeña.
He said that he will not stop looking for more strategies so his district will be able to meet its collection target.
He said he keeps on reminding his fellow workers to double their efforts and be loyal to their work so they could meet their assigned collection target.
He added that he will pursue the fight against corruption in his district as well as combat all forms of smuggling within his area of responsibility.
It was learned that the BOC District Office no. 10 has managed to meet its month collection goal since January this year.
Meanwhile, Lapeña together with District Collector Marahombsalic and MICPT Collector Sam Pacasum, Deputy Collector for Operation Atty. Roswald Joseph Pague, and the Customs Police led the opening of the confiscated various smuggled items at MICPT warehouse.
The smuggled items confiscated were Hydro Chloric Acid, Chop Chop Vehicles, Onions and assorted Ukay-Ukay dressed.
According Deputy Collector Atty. Roswald Joseph Pague that the smuggled items will be auctioned soon, except for the used clothings (Ukay-ukay).
