Gang members nabbed for motornapping

TAGUM City, Davao del Norte--Five members of the notorious "Sukarap Gang" are facing charges before the City Prosecutor’s Office after they were arrested by authorities for alleged involvement in the series of motornapping incidents here.

The Tagum City Police filed a robbery case against Ekcel Artajo Valdueza, 18, Richard Taganahan Allan, 22, and three other suspects who are minors for allegedly stealing the motorcycle of Apolinar Paraiso last October 12, 2017 in front of a bakery store in Barangay Apokon.

According to the local police, after the victim reported his complaint, a group from their station together with the agents from Tagum’s Finest, a special task force for security in the city, conducted a joint hot-pursuit operation which resulted to the recovery of two stolen motorcycles and the apprehension of the five suspects.

Two units of Honda Wave 100 were recovered in Barangay Cuambugan particularly in the shop of Taimi Socorro as stated in the initial report of the police.

The police likewise revealed that the members of Sukarap Gang are behind some of the related incidents of crime in the city, including the midnight holdup of government employees last month along the JV Ayala Avenue, in front of the New City Hall. The perpetrators were then arrested in a follow-up manhunt.

Meanwhile, Valdueza and Allan are currently detained in the City Jail as their case undergoes proceeding while the apprehended minors were turned over to the Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY) for proper custody, being tagged as Children In Conflict with the Law (CICL).

On the other hand, Police Sr. Insp. Cosme Masepequina, head of Tagum’s Finest, reminded the people of Tagum City to take double care of their belongings especially of their cars and motorcycles, underscoring that the police alone cannot guarantee the safety of the countless vehicles parked all over the city thus requiring a mutual effort from the community and the authorities.

“Ang trabaho sa police mao man jud ang mag-protekta sa property sa atong katawhan, pero before ana atong i-secure una, mismo kita -- atong kaugalingon, ang atong kabtangan,” urged Masepequina.

“Expect nga gamay na lang ni nga panghitabo kay nangadakpan na ang mga suspetsado, pero dili ta magkumpyansa kung mahimo palitan nato ug kadena ug lain (security tools) ang atong motor. Kita una ang magbantay sa atong propredad,” Masepequina added. Roy Banias/ CIO Tagum
