Northern Mindanao students join in Philippine Model Congress

STUDENTS Fredmar Gemino, Aage Benedict Maneja, Vench Clark Mier, and Gregory Luis Magbanua formed the delegation of Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan to this year’s Philippine Model Congress (PMC) at the Senate of the Philippines in Pasay City, held from September 9 to 10.
The said congress was attended by outstanding Filipino youth leaders across the country, who represented their respective regions and universities.
Gemino, president of Ateneo Historical Society, represented the lone district of Camiguin.
Both Maneja and Mier represented the two districts of Cagayan de Oro City. Mier is the president of Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan DOST Scholars' Organization (XADSO) while Maneja is the executive secretary of the United Arts and Science Student Council (UNITASS).
Gregory Luis Magbanua, a Business Economics student and executive secretary of STREAMS XU - Pathways to Higher Education served as the Region 10 (Northern Mindanao) PMC ambassador.
For the past four years, PMC has been providing an avenue for youth leaders to come together in the country's premier legislative simulation. It has also given the delegates the opportunity to share what issues matter to them and the collective sense of finding solutions to societal problems.
PMC continues to give the youth an opportunity to be heard by our country’s leaders, increase awareness on national issues, and create a community of young people committed to building our nation.
As a model of the Philippine government’s legislative process, the participants simulated congressional debates, engaged in workshops, and learned from transformative guest speakers.
Screened bills from each committee passed on the plenary were presented to the actual Philippine Senate and House of Representatives.
PMC’s mission is to strengthen the voice of the Filipino youth, instill political awareness, promote civic involvement, and build a network of young citizens who positively invested in the country’s future.
On the other hand, their vision is to be the premier legislative simulation of the Philippines where Filipino youth are inspired to take an active role in nation-building and shaping the national agenda.
