MISAMIS Oriental (2nd District) Representative Juliette Uy joined fellow lawmakers led by House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez in recognizing this year’s 10 Outstanding Filipino awardees of the Metrobank Foundation who were chosen on the basis of their inspiring contributions to the academe, the armed forces, and the national police.“We congratulate this year’s batch of winners that consist of four teachers, three soldiers, and three police officers. It is noteworthy that five of the awardees hail from Mindanao, including one from Gitagum, Misamis Oriental,” Congresswoman Uy said.
“It is my honor to congratulate Army Lieutenant Colonel Ricky Bunayog, Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations of the 6th Infantry Division stationed in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao. He is a son of Gitagum town that is in the second district
of Misamis Oriental,” Congw. Uy added.
A Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipino is recognized for rendering service above and beyond his/her call of duty. His/her accomplishments must have inspired and influenced their peers as well as the people in their respective communities. Their works must have transformed a community with a lasting positive impact on people and to the country.
“Lt. Col. Bunayog has led many successful missions against lawless groups in Central Mindanao. But he gained this award due to his non-combat initiatives that facilitated the settlement of ridos (blood feuds) in Sultan Kudarat and Maguindanao in close coordination with local governments in the said areas. He also helped make the construction and repair of school buildings in Maguindanao. He is an officer with the heart of a warrior and the mind of peacekeeper,” Uy said.
The nine other awardees are: teachers Jennifer Rojo (Neogan Elementary School, Tagaytay City), Edgar Elago (Magallanes National High School, Magallanes, Agusan del Norte), Dr. Esperanza Cabrera (De La Salle University, Manila); Dr. Alonzo Gabriel (University of the Philippines-Diliman, Quezon City); soldiers Staff Sergeant Narding Pascual (26th Infantry Battalion, 4th Infantry Division, Philippine Army, Talacogon, Agusan del Sur), Lieutenant Colonel Elmer Suderio (Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations, 1st Infantry Division, Philippine Army, Labangan, Zamboanga Del Sur); and Police Officer 3 Shiela May Pansoy (Digos City Police Station, Davao del Sur), Police Chief Inspector Rosalino Ibay, Jr. (Manila City Police District) and Police Senior Superintendent Joel Doria (Cebu City Police Office).
Since 1985, Metrobank Foundation has honored a total of 645 Outstanding Filipinos, 356 teachers, 151 soldiers and 138 police officers.
Each awardee will receive a cash incentive of P1 million, a gold medallion, and a trophy.
