COUNCILOR Romeo V. Calizo, chair of the City
Council committee on police, fire and public safety, yesterday reiterated the
strong determination of the government to intensify the campaign against
illegal drugs.
This was his pronouncement during his
guesting at the radio program “Ang Konseho Karon” aired yesterday over Magnum
Radio with Councilors Teodulfo Lao and Enrico Salcedo.
“We are going to strengthen our campaign
As
indicated in RA 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and the
Local Government Code, all barangay officials have a role to play in the
national anti-drug campaign. Obliged ang local government especially the barangay
officials to strengthen more the campaign against illegal drugs,” the councilor
stressed.
The councilor added that the
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) will now try to qualify and
categorize the status of each barangays in the city as regards their activities
related to anti-illegal drugs campaign.
“According to PDEA regional director
kay PDEA, being the office directly under the office of the president naa gyud
BADAC
The Power learned that out of 80
barangays, only 48 barangays have activated their respective Barangay Anti-Drug
Abuse Council (BADAC).
“Existing man ang mga BADAC ang
active diha are those cooperative with the civil activity, bale 48 are
initiated by CADAC. Ang uban niini dili kaayo ga cooperate. So out of 80
barangays, 48 lang ang naka initiate but we hope that after July 1 we will
barangay mag initiate gyud ug anti-illegal drugs campaign,” Councilor Calizo manifested.
Councilor Calizo also reported that
at present, the city’s supply and demand of drugs is experiencing some sort of
turmoil as enforcers are stringent in their duties.
“We are lucky here in Cagayan de Oro
kay based on intelligence report, ang supply diri murag kulang. Ang demand
gakaubos ang supply kulang or dili kaha galisod sila’g pamaligya tungod sa law
enforcement nato.
naman sa mga enforcement personnel nato so they are now always on the run, ang
distributan, there goes now a difficulty in distribution sale busa siguro
pud,” the councilor reported.
With the conclusion of the barangay
and SK election, Councilor Calizo is urging all the newly-elected barangay
officials to focus on their mandate and work hand-in-hand with the city
government in its war against drugs. (JAO)
